Memorial Madness

While Chase has been in Rome, my mom and I have been all over New York City and back. Just to sum up all we did in one weekend, I think I need to provide a bulleted list instead of going into detail. I would be here all night writing about each activity, but here it is in a nut shell:

• 3 plays: Mamma Mia, Shrek the Musical, & Rock of Ages
• City Sights Tour bus - Uptown Loop, Downtown Loop, & Night Loop
• Tour of NBC Studios
• Tour of Radio City Music Hall
• Went to Top of the Rock
• Walked through Street Fair
• Ate cart guy (yum yum)
• Federal Hall Museum - Lincoln Exhibit
• Tried to go to UN for a tour, but was closed
• Shopped
• and ate a lot...

Oh and on top of all of that, we saw Susan Sarandon and she waved at us. (okay, maybe not AT us, but in our direction with 10-15 other people). Overall, a fantastic fun filled weekend!

When in Rome...

If you can't tell, Chase made it to Rome successfully today. Above is a picture he sent from his i-phone letting me know he was there. He will be there with Kevin until Tuesday helping his dad out with a tour and then he will head back to Jackson for Ashley and Tripp's wedding. While he is out, my mom is here visiting and we are tackling New York head on. More updates to come on the weekend.

New Jersey Bound...

Well the time has finally come....my office has officially moved to Jersey City, NJ. Above is a picture of my new building in all its glory. My old easy going 3 minute commute has turned into a 30 minute fight for my life as I trek past all the Jerseyites (is that right?) coming into the city for work. If you haven't had the pleasure of experiencing this, picture the following scenario: Your office building is on fire and everyone is running down the stairs. Now imagine yourself trying to quietly walk up the stairs against the flow of traffic. That my friends is what it is like commuting OUT of New York City in the mornings. Jealous?

Anywho, all in all the move hasn't been the end of the world. Below I've posted a couple of pictures...one is a view of the Brooklyn Bridge from my old desk in NY. The other is my new view from Jersey of the Statue of Liberty. Clearly I'm not complaining on either views.

Busy Weekend

Friday night, Chase and I went up to Julliard's campus to see a production of Shakespeare's "Othello" done by some of their 3rd year students. It was a great, "free" thing to do in the city (those are few and far between).

Saturday, we met up with friends Rischel and Michele to see the new Star Trek movie in the IMAX theatre. I've never been one to call myself a "Trekkie" nor even seen a single episode or previous Star Trek movie...but I must say it was excellent and would recommend it to anyone. Warning though, you may exit the theatre speaking Trekkie language and giving the special hand signal.

Later that evening we all went to eat dinner at Benihana's in midtown. We of course enjoyed ourselves and Chase even got a souvenir chef hat to go (seen above). Yes, my husband is 12 years old.

Sunday we decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and spend some time in Brooklyn, NY. First stop was the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens which were absolutely gorgeous. Then we had lunch at this cute little soul food place called Cheryl's. Lastly before heading home, we walked by the Public Library and then went in the Brooklyn Museum for a few hours.

Lastly to report, Friday was sadly my last day to work in New York as my office is officially moving to the Goldman building in Jersey City, NJ. The commute won't be terrible, but I am sad to leave my current building. As a tribute, one of my co-workers, Kerry, and I drew this depiction of our view outside our desks. Sadly we'll be giving up our fantastic view of the Brooklyn Bridge, but at the same time we'll still have a decent view...this time it will be the Statue of Liberty. Pictures to follow one day soon...

Dad & Ellen NYC Trip

It's been a while, so I don't know where to start exactly so I'll go with this past weekend. Dad and Ellen came in town Thursday night and we've had a jam packed fun weekend. Friday night we ate dinner at Duane Park restaurant in Tribeca where we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. After that we enjoyed a stroll around the Brooklyn Bridge, stopped for a drink on Stone Street, and then headed home for the evening.

Saturday we started the morning off with some breakfast and then took the Staten Island Ferry over and back to enjoy the views of the Statue of Liberty. After the boat ride, we briefly walked through a street fair down on Broadway where Dad and Ellen found some great pashminas for Beemons. After a stroll in the park, window shopping on 5th Avenue, and lunch at John's Pizza we went home to get ready for Hair on Broadway that evening.

Overall a great weekend even though the rain tried to get in the way the entire time. Now me and the kitties are watching a Law and Order: SVU marathon on USA until Chase gets home from Atlanta (he left yesterday afternoon to meet his Dad and Kevin for a Rome trip meeting).
